Dr Alexandra Kotlar is a New Zealand born graduate of the University of Otago with Bachelor of Science (2004) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (2009).

Immediately after her dental graduation she was appointed as a Dental and Maxillofacial House Officer at Waikato Hospital where she worked for a very fulfilling and enriching year.

After moving to Australia, Dr Alex moved away from the hospital system and worked as a general dentist in both public and private practises over the next 12 years. It was during this time that she developed an interest in paediatrics, myofunctional orthodontics, tongue tie release and laser dentistry.

Dr Alex was introduced to early intervention orthodontics and myofunctional therapy first through multiple educational courses from the Myofunctional Research Company and then was trained through the Couslon Institute by the queen of myofunctional therapy, Speech Pathologist, Sandra Coulson. This education was fundamental in changing the focus of her practise. Dr Alex then went onto study several courses through the Tongue Tie Institute with Dr Marjan Jones and Dr Dan Hanson, and began providing laser tongue and lip tie treatments for all ages with a different level of skill and understanding than she had during her time providing tongue tie releases in Waikato Hospital as a new graduate.

Additionally, she has completed training from Tufts University (Boston) in Paediatric Tongue & Lip Ties (2017), Tufts Dental Sleep Medicine Mini Residency (Singapore, 2019), and the Breathe Institute Functional Frenuloplasty Course in 2018. She has attended multiple myofunctional and tethered oral tissue related conferences within Australia and internationally.

Dr Alex is an Associate Fellow of the World Clinical Laser Institute (2019). After completing the IAADent Comprehensive Orthodontic Course in 2020, she gained the Post Graduate Diploma in Dentofacial Orthodontics and Orthopaedics from UJI (Spain) in 2021.

She has now restricted her practise to provide early intervention myofunctional therapy and orthodontics as well as laser treatment of lip and tongue ties for all ages of the population. Dr Alex enjoys ensuring a collaborative and holistic approach is given to all her patients. A firm believer in continuing education Dr Alex will always seek growth in the areas of her interests to ensure she is giving the best care to her patient base.
